Getting Started with OverDrive Kindle eBooks

In order to check out eBooks from Timberland you must have a valid TRL Library card.

Overview of steps:

  1. Find the eBook you want
  2. Checkout
  3. Download
    Option 1 - Send eBook to a WiFi enabled Kindle or Kindle app
    Option 2 - Save eBook file and transfer to a non-WiFi enabled Kindle.

Find the eBook you want

  1. Go to www.TRL.org and click Library Collection. From the drop down menu choose Overdrive. You can also go directly to: http://ebook.trl.org/

  2. From the page below, click on the yellow graphic that says Download Audio books, eBooks, Music, Videos or the link that says OverDrive Download Collection.

  3. To find titles, Browse the eBook categories or search for something specific using a basic or advanced search.

Checking Out

  1. When you find a title click Add to cart for the Kindle Book version.

  2. Click Proceed to Checkout.

  3. Type your Library card number and PIN.
    Sign In to OverDrive

  4. Select Lending Period and then click Confirm check out.

Download

  1. Click Get for Kindle. This will take you to Amazon.com.

  2. Log in to your Amazon.com account.

  3. Choose the device you want to send the book to.

Option 1 - Send eBook to a WiFi enabled Kindle or Kindle app

If your Kindle is WiFi enabled, or you are sending the Kindle book to a device with the Kindle app, the book will automatically be sent to your device.

Option 2 - Transfer eBook to a non-WiFi enabled Kindle

  1. Click on Download now. You will see a message like this (with the name of your device and book):

  2. Choose Save File, and then click OK. This will save your Kindle Edition to the default download location on your PC or Mac.

  3. Open a Windows Explorer or Mac Finder window, navigate to your default downloads location and Drag and Drop the file into the Documents folder on the Kindle.

  4. Eject your Kindle.

  5. The book is now available on your Kindle!
